Professor Kim rented out a traditional Korean house for our group! We spent the rest of the afternoon exploring the complex and a local temple.
Before entering the house we the had to take off our shoes and leave them outside. Sometimes this was forgotten but, for the most part, we remembered. There were 4 major rooms in the home. The guys shared one and the girls split up and shared two rooms. In between the rooms was a common room, where we would all spend time together. After our traditional Korean style dinner, we went back to the house and talked, laughed, and tried tasted traditional Korean snacks and drinks. It was a very relaxed and fun evening getting to know everyone a little bit better.
And then it was bedtime...
Unlike the sleeping I am used to, we had to sleep on the floor. We were given a very thin cushion to lay on (basically nothing) and a rolled up pillow containing rice or beans. In our room was professor Anderson, Liz, Jordan, and me. Laying side by side, our heads had to face the north. I fell asleep right away, thankfully.
We were VERY uncomfortable. Each of us were very sore the next day. Professor Anderson was not a fan:)
We all greatly appreciated the experience!
