Dongdaemun Design Plaza (Thursday afternoon)

Visiting the design plaza and park was quite inspirational. I'll try to fill you in on what the significance is! This design plaza, when completed, will "serve as a Mecca of fashion and design industry, a center of Seoul's economic recovery, a public park and recreational zone for the 10 million citizens and an attractive tourist site for foreign visitors from the world".

This was supposed to be completed in 2011. Due to the complex form and construction of the building, it is still being worked on.

What did we get to visit then?
An exhibit and the park side of the design....
Samsung is a leading company in Korea and they sponsored a highly sophisticated DDP design exhibit which housed the design process, model, building materials, and many more details that helped to explain the design of the Dongdaemun Design Plaza.

In class and in lectures I have learned about the famous female architect, Zaha Hadid. To actually walk in a space that she designed was such an awesome experience. She is the first women to win the Pritzker Architecture Prize (2004). I would say this is the most honorable recognition in architecture.

I wish I could see the DDP when completed! It will benefit Seoul in so many ways!
